“I Will Never Wear This Color” — But Why?

One of the most common things women say during a styling or colour session is:
“I could never wear that colour.”

And often, it is said immediately and with complete certainty.

Of course, some colours naturally suit us more than others. Our skin tone, eye colour, and hair colour all influence which shades make us look brighter, softer, fresher, or more balanced. But in reality, almost every woman can wear almost every colour — if the right tone and intensity are chosen.

So why do we reject certain colours so strongly?

Very often, it is psychological.

Colours carry emotions, moods, and identities. Pink, for example, is associated with softness, romance, and femininity. A woman with a more dramatic, edgy, or glamorous style personality may struggle to see herself in pink because it feels too delicate or sweet for the image she has of herself.

The same happens with red. Red is confident, bold, and expressive. Women with a softer, bohemian, or more casual style personality sometimes feel uncomfortable wearing it because it feels “too much” for them emotionally — not visually.

Sometimes the rejection of a colour has nothing to do with beauty, and everything to do with identity.

And that is what makes colour analysis so interesting: it is never only about fashion. It is also about personality, mood, confidence, and the version of ourselves we are ready — or not yet ready — to express.
